Welcome / Kia ora

Northern Southland College is a modern co-educational Year 7 to 13 school situated in the picturesque Waimea Valley in Southland. It is very well situated offering excellent access to both Queenstown Lakes District and Fiordland World Heritage Park. This lovely rural community offers a safe and supportive environment for young people to grow up in.

Northern Southland College takes great pride in its academic achievements. We have consistently achieved NCEA pass rates which are at the highest level nationally. This modern well resourced college has a proud tradition of educating the students of Northern Southland. The excellent ICT skills and resources the school has give a clear advantage to all the students who can advance their learning both individually or collaboratively.

We are of a size where we can care for our students as individuals, developing strong relationships which foster student growth both academically and socially. A strong sense of family pervades the college ands these attributes ensure that the young people mature into well balanced young adults. Our class sizes both in the senior college and in junior classes range from anywhere from 5 to 20 students.

The school’s mission statement emphases the importance of developing the whole individual and this is certainly the direction that the school follows

“We strive to develop the complete person, whose academic endeavour is balanced with sporting and cultural involvement and whose exhibition of personal and social skills is positive.”

We maintain sound traditional values and insist on high standards of attitude, behaviour and aspirations, while offering a wide range of curricula interest and opportunities to meet the needs of the students. As part of this we offer a very extensive Education Outside the Classroom programme which has trips for every level of the school. Each year we also run a Production which involves a large portion of the school. Northern Southland is a very sporting area and this is reflected in the sport that is played at the college.

Please feel free to browse our website and learn more about our school and if you want to know more about our College, do not hesitate to contact the Principal or visit the College so that you can view our fine facilities and discuss your child’s needs on a personal level.
