Northern Southland College

Newsletter - Term 2 Week 2

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

5 May 2023

Kia ora koutou

Today is the Northern Southland Community Pool Golf Ball Drop fundraiser. By the time this newsletter has been published somebody will be $3,000 better off and others will have won prizes like boat cruises, accommodation and spot prizes. This fundraiser has been incredibly well supported by the Northern Southland Community. We have raised just over $11,000 for the pool heating project. Thank you to all that have organised and supported the event.

The PPTA teachers’ union have given notice of industrial action taking place this term. All PPTA members will be on strike this coming Tuesday 9 May. Classes will not be taught on Tuesday 9 May.
We will have limited supervision available for students that must attend school. School buses will run as normal.

In addition to this action, there are also days where PPTA members will not teach specific year levels.
Next week the Year 13 students will be ‘rostered home’ on Thursday 11 May. You will see a list of all roster home days in this newsletter.
We will also send a notification out on the school app at the beginning of each week to confirm the day and year level being rostered home. Thank you for your understanding.

The NSC School Ball 'The Oscars' is next Friday 12 May. Under the expert guidance of Miss Eason, the students have planned and executed what will be a fantastic evening. Many lunch times have been spent learning their formal dances. We welcome all whānau and community members to see the students when they arrive at the Lumsden Memorial Hall from 6:30 pm on Friday 12 May.

If you make fortnightly payments, unless otherwise indicated by you, we will prioritise the allocation to charges that require clearing before your child can participate (e.g. sporting teams or camps).

Reminder - Staggered Board of Trustee Elections

The current Board Representatives would like to make a change to when elections occur by holding mid-term elections of the parent representatives rather than every 3 years.

The Board of Trustees would like to give notice to parents and students that this matter will be discussed and decided on at the Board of Trustees meeting held at 6pm on Monday 8th May, 2023 at the school. Parents and students have a right to attend this meeting (and any other BOT meeting) as part of the consultation process. It is the Board’s decision which three positions are for the three-year term of office and which two are for the 18 month term. The proposed date for the first mid-term election would be April, 2024

It would be helpful if you could notify the Board’s secretary by emailing anna.highfield@nsc.school.nz if you are going to attend so we can pick a suitable venue within the school.

  • Select the relevant alert groups by clicking on the tick in the top right hand corner of the screen. Select the sport and then the team that your child participates in.
  • Please also delete any groups your child is no longer involved in.
