PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Our students were outstanding ambassadors at our Open Night, last Thursday. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening seeing our students lead, demonstrate and interact with our 2024 student cohort. It was extremely pleasing to receive positive feedback from families about the evening, about our wonderful students and facilities, including our new classrooms which are now operational.
Congratulations to our NSC Kapa Haka students that performed at Murihiku Polyfest this week. This was the first time we have participated in several years. Our students can be extremely proud of their commitment to the team. I would also like to thank Elysia and Mrs Rodgers for the time and effort they have invested in our students this year.
Best wishes to students, staff and parents attending Winter Sports Tournament Week.
Representing NSC next week are; the Senior Netball team with Miss Stark and Annie Armitage; the Junior Basketball team with Mrs Retallick and Gwen Gullick; the Senior Hockey team with Mr Jackson, Mrs Ussher and Mrs Elder; the Under 15 Rugby players with CSC; and Senior Basketball player Adam Bayer.

Ministry of Education reminder for caregivers:
Supervise children at bus stops.
A reminder for caregivers that it is their responsibility to supervise their children prior to the children boarding the school bus in the morning and once they get off the school bus in the afternoon.
This is especially pertinent during the winter months as visibility is poorer due to the time of year and the weather conditions. School buses are not able to wait at bus stops for children to be collected so it is important that the caregiver is on time.

Murihiku Polyfest
Murihiku Polyfest has been running this past week and NSC Kapa Haka Rōpū (group) performed on Monday 21st August in the ILT Stadium.
The students looked fantastic on stage and did a great job. At the end of our waiata, the senior leaders from Lumsden Primary School got up and performed a tautoko (response) to our performance.
We returned on Thursday to watch and support Lumsden Primary school and also performed a tautoko at the end of their performance.
The Kapa Haka Rōpū will be taking part in the Central Lakes Polyfest in October and will be learning several new waiata between now and then.
You can find a link for Murihiku Polyfest footage including NSC Kapa Haka Rōpū on our NSC Facebook page.

New World Cookware Sticker Promotion
If anybody has New World stickers that they are not wanting for themselves, the NSC Food Technology, Hospitality & Home Economics department would love them to acquire some new cookware for our students.
During a recent New World promotion, NSC accumulated enough stickers from community generosity to enable each of our Year 12 Hospitality students to have a cooks knife each for their exclusive use. Any donations of stickers can be left at the school office.

Southland Secondary Schools Climbing Competition
On Tuesday 15 August, a group of eleven enthusiastic students headed down to Invercargill to compete in the Southland Secondary Schools climbing competition. We were climbing against students from Wakatipu, Fiordland and a mixed team from Invercargill schools.
The students had a long day with 10 routes climbed in total and they all had to stretch their climbing skills to complete some pretty challenging climbs.
There is a second climbing competition coming up on 9 September in Te Anau so the students are continuing to practice their holds and belays over the next few weeks.
Thanks to Mrs R and parents who have managed to make this happen.
